After being criticized of its role in declaring the global alert WHO said on Monday that it will set up independent review of the response to the national outbreak.

This international response will be specially inspected by a committee of 29 health experts and scientist. This committee has been formed by the UN health agency.

The first meeting has been planned to be held on 12 to 14 April. Keiji Fukuda special advise on pandemic influenza said that “in depth and broad review into the preparedness and the response to the current influenza pandemic”.

He also added that a better performance of the review will cause less confusion.

This idea would help the experts to determine the issues to deal with and whom to be questioned.

Late January WHO officials have responded to the criticism by promising that it will set up an independent review.

He also said that the virus is still active in the areas of Southeast Asia, west and central Africa and some cases in central and South America.

Swine flu has now reached 213 countries all over the world with more than 16,900 deaths.

H1N1 virus to be blamed for an increase in the pregnancy deaths

Date: March 24 2010 at 09:15 p.m IST

According a research report pregnant women who are affected by swine flu virus are 13 times more likely to become ill than the other women who all had been affected by the same virus.

H1N1 virus has put the pregnant women at a high risk for getting serious complications. This is because the immune system of the women will be less active during pregnancy. To study the relationship between the swine flu and pregnancy the researches took the medical records of 20 pregnant women and women who had given birth recently and have contracted the swine flu virus. And also the records of the women who have been hospitalized in the ICU between the months of June and August 2009. Of the total 209 women 30 of them were either pregnant or given birth recently, 57 were hospitalized in the ICU in Australia and 7 in New Zealand.

Of the women included in the case study pregnant women were at a high risk of getting admitted to ICU then the normal women who has contracted the swine flu virus. And Afghanistan is also in the line to receive the flu vaccines soon.

Swine flu updates – WHO

Date: November 25 2009 at 01:20 p.m IST

Worldwide swine flu death reaches to 11.500 – WHO

Since April when the H1N1 virus was uncovered more than 11,500 peoples has died till now, says the World Health Organization.

WHO said the swine flu virus has now peaked in the northern hemisphere which includes North America and Western Europe. But the initial test shows that only one dose is necessary.

But they are waiting for the additional test reports to confirm that weather one dose in necessary or the children and the old people need to be provided with two doses.
The scientist and researches are waiting for more information that is likely to be trialed in a two weeks.

Lungs are deeply affected by swine flu virus

Date: September 10 2009

According to the study that has been published in nature biotechnology the pandemic H1N1 virus seems to affect the lungs deeply than other seasonal flu.

According to the researchers the virus sticks to the lung cells and spread to the cells as quickly as it can.

The virus mostly spread through the respiratory tract by attacking the receptors molecules in the cell found in nose, Throat and upper air way. It also affects the receptors molecules in lung cells that results in rigorous lung infection.

Depending on the virus type the types of virus tends to affect different receptors in the human body. If they are not able find any receptors they will not be able to affect the cells and cause infection.

Once they find the receptors they infect the cells and multiply into thousands and cause infection to other neighboring cells. This is the way it also spread from human to human.

This study shows that why people are affected more severely by the swine flu virus than any other seasonal flu.

The study also says that the scientist should monitor the current H1N1 virus for its changes if it makes the cell infection more rigorous.

The researchers also said that the swine flu viruses are more attracted to the weak receptors molecules in the lungs than those in the respiratory track. Because of this reason some people have mild symptoms when they are infected by swine flu.

2837 die for swine flu say WHO

Date: September 7 2009

The swine flu infection seems to be continuously circulating around both the northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere.
