According a research report pregnant women who are affected by swine flu virus are 13 times more likely to become ill than the other women who all had been affected by the same virus.
H1N1 virus has put the pregnant women at a high risk for getting serious complications. This is because the immune system of the women will be less active during pregnancy. To study the relationship between the swine flu and pregnancy the researches took the medical records of 20 pregnant women and women who had given birth recently and have contracted the swine flu virus. And also the records of the women who have been hospitalized in the ICU between the months of June and August 2009. Of the total 209 women 30 of them were either pregnant or given birth recently, 57 were hospitalized in the ICU in Australia and 7 in New Zealand.
Of the women included in the case study pregnant women were at a high risk of getting admitted to ICU then the normal women who has contracted the swine flu virus. None of them have got their flu vaccine in spite of recommending that mothers have to get their flu shots.
