Before the winter pours the H1N1 virus the authorities are seeking to get enough vaccine to protect the high risk group people as well as health care workers.

According to HSE about 500,000 vaccine doses are expected to be available by the mid to late of October.

The first jabs are identified to 80,000 health care workers, 400,000 high risk people under the age of 65 having bad health condition. It had been urged that the health care workers have to be given the high priority as they come in direct contact with the affected people.

However the authorities are clear that these groups placed at the top of the file will be able to get the first dose of vaccine by late October. Then they have to get a second dose within three to four week’s time to make sure of maximum protection.

It is still not cleat that the vaccine is free for all. Have the private patients have to pay for the vaccine if they get from their GP or the state will pay for the entire package.

The authorities are clear that the first dose goes to the high risk people under 65 will also include babies above six months under medical condition and pregnant women.

People above 65, healthy children and people will have to wait for the vaccine.
