Frank and critical review of swine flu wanted by WHO chief

To review the response of the outbreak which occurred last year WHO is starting a meeting of experts on Monday.

A committee of 29 experts from various universities and ministries meet on Monday to review about the response of the national outbreak last year.

The meeting would last for three days.

The committee will begin their assessment of international pandemic response and they will also identify the lessons learned for the future.

Decisions regarding the vaccination have also been added to the review.

Officials of WHO said that they need a sound alarm when the H1N1 virus again start to spread since no one will know how the national outbreak will turn again.

More than 17,500 deaths were confirmed worldwide due to swine flu since last year April.

The initial findings of the committee will be presented in May and the detailed and final report will be published next year.

Swine Flu Update

2009 met a global outbreak called the flu pandemic which was caused by a new strain of virus H1N1 virus and the flu caused by this virus is called as Swine Flu. The virus was first detected in April 2009 in Mexico City. This virus contains a combination of genes from swine, birds and human influenza viruses.

The initial spread of the virus was very rapid that resulted in the deaths of many young ones. This made to raise a global awareness and an initial alarm.

Before recognizing it as a national pandemic it speeded for months and hence the Mexican government closed all its public and private facilities in an attempt to stop the spread of the virus. Still the virus started to spread globally. Clinics were crowed with the infected people. In June WHO (World Health Organization) and US CDC (Centre for Disease Control) declared the pandemic to be national outbreak.

Some people have experienced mild symptoms of the flu and other has severe symptoms. People suffering from asthmatics, diabetics, obesity, heart disease, children with neuro developmental conditions and pregnant women were announced as high risk group to the swine flu virus.
