New Delhi: Late Thursday at least 10 swine flu deaths were reported taking the nationwide H1N1 death rate to 45. This is the highest death sway so far in a single day.

The deaths were reported from Karnataka (four), Delhi, Gujarat and Pune each with two deaths.

Now Karnataka ranks second in the death rate with 11 persons after Maharashtra which has reported 25 deaths in India. And five people have died in Gujarat and one each in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

On Thursday 159 fresh cases of swine flu cases were reported in the country taking the total number of persons affected by swine flu to 2,401, in spite of taking slew measures to check and the break the infectivity rotation.

The victims of the late Thursday death are Vikram Sharma (25), Dipti Pawar (27) in pune, Krishnaveni (45) and Kalpana (36) in Karnataka, and Edward Mohan (45).

In the meantime Bombay HC has asked the centre to case a sworn statement within a week on the actions taken for tackling H1N1.
